In this section we cover news, insights and trivia about Intelligent Document Processing (IDP), share interesting articles, upcoming webinars, events and more.
What we cover in this week’s (more like last week’s, since it’s Monday already) recap:
🗞️News:
Indico Data is recognized in two Gartner Hype Cycles
Intelligent Document Processing vendor Indico Data has announced that it has been recognized by analyst firm Gartner in two of their recent Hype Cycle reports: in “Hype Cycle for Property & Casualty Insurance”, Indico Data has been listed under both Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) and Digital Underwriting. And in “Hype Cycle for Life Insurance”, Indico Data has been named as a reference vendor for IDP. While proud of the recognition, Indico Data sees it as a sign of a broader industry transformation. “Yes, we show up under IDP in both reports. But here’s the thing: IDP is where the conversation starts, not where it ends,” the company noted. Indico Data has evolved beyond document automation, focusing instead on its Agentic Decisioning Platform—a solution designed to help insurers deploy AI agents that triage, summarize, and route information.
Cortical.io reappoints its Co-Founder as CEO
Intelligent Document Processing vendor Cortical.io has announced that it has reappointed its Co-Founder Francisco Webber as CEO, effective July 1, 2025. With this move, Cortical.io aims to tap into the rapidly growing market of intelligent operations. In addition to announcing the return of Francisco Webber as CEO, the IDP vendor also announced the upcoming launch of its Sensor Fusion (SF2) platform, which goes beyond natural language processing. According to Cortical.io, the first version of the SF2 platform is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2025, with broader availability expected in early 2026. Francisco Webber commented: “Innovation has been at the heart of Cortical.io since its founding in 2011 and remains deeply embedded in our DNA. With its ability to interpret vast, disparate streams of sensor data in real time—even in remote and harsh environments—SF2 has the potential to revolutionise how operational systems are monitored and how failures are detected.”
ABBYY Hackathon showcases impact of Document AI and Agentic Automation
Intelligent Document Processing vendor ABBYY has hosted its third annual AI Pulse Developer Conference and Hackathon, bringing together developers, enterprises, and students to explore the potential of Document AI, AI agents, and generative AI in solving real-world challenges. With over 300 attendees and 35 participating teams, the event highlighted innovation across business automation and AI-powered document processing. Team Deloitte took home Best Overall App for “Spend Guard,” an expense claim solution that uses ABBYY Vantage and Google’s Gemini to automate receipt validation while flagging non-compliant expenses. Team McKinsey won Best Use of an ABBYY Product with “Smart Translator,” combining ABBYY Vantage and ChatGPT to extract and contextually translate data across languages, eliminating manual input. Team Telstra earned Best Integration of Third-Party AI for “Insurance AIdvisor,” an AI assistant. Last but not least, student team CMRIT received an honorary mention in the “Student Excellence Award” category. Neil Murphy, CRO at ABBYY, commented: “When we kicked off DevCon three years ago, we wanted to build a global community where developers could challenge the status quo and reimagine what’s possible with AI and documents and cure the biggest headaches related to document processing. This year’s solutions were nothing short of inspiring – turning complex challenges like healthcare policy interpretation and expense compliance into smart, intuitive experiences. What excites me most is how far we’ve come, with ABBYY investing in new R&D hubs, Centers of Excellence, and the tools to empower this growing ecosystem of innovators. We’re just getting started.”
qBotica joins forces with Kognitos
Intelligent Document Processing provider qBotica has announced a strategic partnership with Kognitos to address the limitations of legacy automation platforms like RPA and APA. Thanks to this partnership, the two companies will combine qBotica’s automation expertise with Kognitos’ neurosymbolic AI to offer a next-generation solution that empowers business users to create and govern automations directly in conversational English. “By using English as code, we eliminate the friction caused by translating business logic into automation logic,” the companies state. The result is a single, unified platform where both IT and business teams can collaborate more effectively, reducing tool sprawl and improving governance. Mahesh Vinayagam, Founder and CEO of qBotica, commented: “Our clients have experienced the power of automation but want to take advantage of AI’s most dynamic and agile capabilities. Having implemented complex automation solutions for years, we recognize that Kognitos represents a fundamental shift. Through English as code, we can finally empower business users with proximity and visibility to the automations that serve their needs. We’re not just offering a new tool; we’re providing our clients a strategic upgrade to a more intelligent, resilient, and cost-effective automation model.”
