Intelligent Document Processing News: Weekly Recap

In this section we cover news, insights and trivia about Intelligent Document Processing (IDP), share interesting articles, upcoming webinars, events and more.

What we cover in this week’s (yes, more like last week’s, since it’s Monday already) recap:

🗞️News:

Box launches Box Extract to deliver agentic data extraction for smarter process automation

The Intelligent Content Cloud Box, who acquired the IDP vendor Alphamoon in August of 2024, has announced new AI agent capabilities, including Box Extract, which enables its customers to use AI agents seamlessly for complex data extraction from any type of document or content. Norbert Raus, ex-CEO at Alphamoon, commented: “Today marks a big milestone for me, Adam Gonczarek and the former Alphamoon team since joining Box. Box Extract is an agentic data extraction solution that turns unstructured content into context at scale. It is powered by AI Extract Agents and advanced OCR. We built it from the ground up, based on years of Alphamoon document processing expertise, and optimized for the AI agent era.” Alan Pelz-Sharpe, founder of Deep Analysis, who attended BoxWorks 2025, commented on the key announcements as follows: “The two that really caught my eye were Box Extract and Box Automate. Combined, they represent Box’s first serious foray into Intelligent Document Processing (IDP). The Extract technology, built from the 2024 Alphamoon acquisition, fills what was a critical gap in the Box stack for Agentic AI. Long story short, Box has launched a platform for Agentic AI built on top of its core content management platform.”

TXT Group completes investment in Altilia, the IDP vendor officially joins the Group

Intelligent Document Processing vendor Altilia has announced that IT solutions and services provider TXT Group, which acquired a minority stake in the company in mid-July (representing approximately 10% of Altilia’s share capital, with the option to increase its stake to up to 100% over time), has completed the transaction. Massimo Ruffolo, Founder, CEO and CPO at Altilia, wrote: “Great news! A new chapter for Altilia is about to begin, and we are thrilled to officially join the TXT GROUP.”

ABBYY’s latest survey reveals challenges with Generative AI

Intelligent Document Processing vendor ABBYY has published the results of its survey “State of Intelligent Automation: GenAI Confessions 2025,” which highlights challenges in the use of GenAI. The survey, conducted by Opinium Research on behalf of ABBYY, covered 1,200 executives or senior managers in companies with more than 100 employees in the US, UK, France, Germany, Australia, and Singapore. The survey found that more than a quarter (27%) of US business leaders said training GenAI models was harder than expected. The same number said it was difficult to integrate into their business processes, while 24% said staff misused the tools (the highest globally). In addition, 23% said it was too expensive, 22% did not have proper governance, and a fifth (20%) had problems with hallucinations – when incorrect information is provided. Maxime Vermeir, Senior Director of AI Strategy at ABBYY, explained: “Businesses are spending money on GenAI tools that promise more than they can provide. In some cases, they don’t even need it. Before moving forward with leveraging GenAI tools or agentic AI, companies need to first evaluate their current processes and create a visibility map of their workflow with data analytics tools such as process intelligence.” He added: “When training models prove more difficult than expected, pre-trained, purpose-built AI turns out to be the right solution. We’ve helped customers like a global fast-food chain improve the extraction of data from thousands of lease agreements by 82% by using document AI to improve GenAI outputs.”

AIDA joins forces with Selectec

Intelligent Document Processing vendor AIDA has announced a partnership with software company Selectec to provide its customers with its enterprise-grade end-to-end IDP platform. Alex Earl, Chief Commercial Officer at AIDA, commented: “Selectec knows how to bring new technology solutions to market and make them work for real customers. Their track record and hands-on approach enable us to help more businesses reap the benefits of intelligent automation, without overwhelming anyone with technical jargon. After many years of experience in various EU markets, we’re excited to see Selectec’s team and their network bring AIDA into organisations where it can really make a difference.” Ben McKean, Sales Director at Selectec, explained: “With AIDA, we’re equipping our partners to have a much deeper conversation with their clients. It moves the discussion beyond just scanning paper and into transforming core business processes with the aid of (agentic) AI. AIDA addresses serious challenges related to compliance and efficiency, transforming inefficient workflows into seamless and reliable processes in a way that other players in the market aren’t able to do. And because our own development team handles the rich customisation that AIDA offers, our partners can confidently deliver a solution we’ve tailored to fit the customer’s exact needs.”
