In this section we cover news, insights and trivia about Intelligent Document Processing (IDP), share interesting articles, upcoming webinars, events and more.
What we cover in this week’s (actually more like last week’s, since it’s already Monday) recap:
🗞️News:
Intelligent Document Processing vendor Cambrion is one of the newest players in the industry
At Intelligent Document Processing Community, we are always excited when (relatively) new IDP vendors emerge and, to be honest, it’s pretty hard to keep up with all the new ones. This is also true for one of the newest players in the Intelligent Document Processing industry, Munich-based Cambrion, co-founded last year by Daniel Gamber, Dr. Daniel Tiarks and Lars Kornhoff. Many thanks to Dan Lucarini, Senior Analyst at analyst firm Deep Analysis, for bringing Cambrion to our attention! Seven months ago, Cambrion introduced itself to the public and claimed to set a new standard in Intelligent Document Processing: “Our platform is built from the ground up to understand document context, going far beyond simple data extraction. We empower organizations to automate complex workflows with unmatched ease and precision.” Cambrion is part of what Dan Lucarini coined as the 4th Wave of Intelligent Document Processing: “We call them 4th Wave because they rely on a multi-modal LLM to handle classification, image pre-processing, and data extraction. This is in stark contrast to the industry’s historic reliance on OCR, pre-processing tools, and custom machine learning models. 4th Wave products skip over those tools in favor of using a growing selection of foundational LLMs from OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, DeepSeek, Llama and others. There are some serious challenges to this LLM-only approach which we have discussed before and will continue to debate.” Check out Dan Lucarini’s article for more insights on Cambrion.
ABBYY introduces ABBYY Document AI API for developers
Intelligent Document Processing vendor ABBYY has announced the launch of ABBYY Document AI API. With that, ABBYY introduces a new Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Application Programming Interface (API) that provides developers with a reliable and consistent OCR tool to enhance workflows with pre-trained models to extract data from documents and accelerate the automation of complex business processes. Nick Hyatt, VP of Engineering at ABBYY, explained: “As a vanguard of OCR, ABBYY has long had a vibrant community of cutting-edge developers creating transformational solutions with our advanced document AI. We are providing them a new API with minimal setup, access to ample community resources, and pre-trained models for building proof-of-concepts. ABBYY Document AI API is a major step forward for developing automated document workflows.”
