The joint project “SPOC-AI” (Single Point of Contact), a central hub for document-based processes, which the Rostock-based companies Planet AI and ALTOW Digital Innovation are developing together with the University of Rostock (UROS), is being funded by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as part of the Regional Innovation Strategy with a budget of over €11 million through the end of July 2027.
Planet AI, an Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) vendor, announced on May 26, 2025, that together with tech company ALTOW Digital Innovation, also based in Rostock, and in cooperation with the University of Rostock (UROS), it will develop “SPOC-AI” (Single Point of Contact), a solution that will serve as a central hub for document-based processes and is built on Planet AI’s document processing platform IDA.
According to Planet AI, the project partners are developing AI agents that are able to efficiently access large data sets and complete complex tasks (with a human-in-the-loop approach) independently. In addition, Large Language Models (LLMs) are being developed for “SPOC-AI” that are tailored to the needs of different areas and industries.
Stan Seeler, Managing Director at ALTOW Digital Innovation, explained: “Projects like SPOC-AI demonstrate the powerful interplay between technological excellence and societal relevance. Our role is to translate complex AI technology into intuitive, secure, and efficient applications, creating tangible impacts for users.”
Jesper Kleinjohann, CEO of Planet AI, commented: “A key highlight of our system is that it can be entirely operated on the client’s premises, making it independent of external cloud services.” Dr. Tobias Strauß from the University of Rostock added: “From a research perspective, we are particularly interested in Explainable AI, understanding how algorithms arrive at specific outcomes.”
About a month ago, Planet AI launched Intelligent Document Analysis (IDA) 5.3, the latest version of its AI-powered document processing platform. With this release, the IDP vendor introduced, among other features, IDA Understanding, a new module that uses LLMs to extract actionable insights from unstructured documents, even when content must be derived from context.
Headquartered in Rostock, Germany, Planet AI leverages its proprietary deep learning and artificial intelligence technology to enable customers to extract information from unstructured documents, seize digitisation opportunities, and eliminate manual effort for data capture. Its Intelligent Document Analysis (IDA) software suite provides comprehensive capabilities that drive short time-to-value automation and high-quality data capture, extraction and analysis.
