Planet AI and Bechtle aim to expand AI footprint in Rostock

The proximity to the University of Rostock, with which the Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) provider has been working closely for years (more than half of the 50 employees at Planet AI are graduates of the University of Rostock) and the State of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, which has confirmed its support for the development of the location, speak in favor of expanding the AI ecosystem in Rostock.

Planet AI, an Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) vendor with its Intelligent Document Analysis (IDA) software suite, announced on April 29 that it is expanding its AI footprint in Rostock, Germany, together with IT provider and majority stakeholder of the company Bechtle, to establish Bechtle’s central AI innovations hub there.

Jesper Kleinjohann, former Chief Operations Officer at Planet AI and now Chief Executive Officer since Bechtle acquired a majority stake of the company last October, also came to Rostock as a student. What’s more, the mathematician even wrote his thesis on neural networks at Planet AI, which underlines the company’s close collaboration with the University of Rostock over several years. Jesper Kleinjohann commented: “Our close partnership with the University of Rostock’s CITlab has proven itself over the years, not only with the many successful projects we’ve collaborated on, but also in terms of recruiting the best talents for our diverse and ever-growing team.”

Michael Guschlbauer, COO, IT System House & Managed Services of Bechtle, explained: “Together with Planet AI, we are taking the next step and expanding the Rostock site to become our central AI innovations hub. The proximity to the university and the state’s commitment to our growth have given us the impetus we need to continue to pursue our goals. Without AI, there can be no digital transformation and we have set our sights firmly on a future-first ecosystem.”

Jochen Schulte, State Secretary at the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure and Tourism in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, said: “The growth of Planet AI underscores our commitment to bolstering the existing AI ecosystem in Rostock, where we already have an outstanding network of university researchers and industrial applications backed by the Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania among others. Together, our aim is to continue to broaden digitalisation expertise in SMEs to promote economic success and innovations.”

Headquartered in Rostock, Germany, Planet AI leverages its proprietary deep learning and artificial intelligence technology to enable customers to extract information from unstructured documents, seize digitisation opportunities, and eliminate manual effort for data capture. Its Intelligent Document Analysis (IDA) software suite provides comprehensive capabilities that drive short time-to-value automation and high-quality data capture, extraction and analysis.
